In 1991 I received a copy of a book that was self published by one of my family members with 180 years of my family history. It was an excellent attempt, but it was rife with errors and little or no documentation.
Being raised in a military family and traveling the world this book was fascinating to me. I knew my family was BIG with Irish Catholic roots and now I had names and places I could confirm this with.
I had been “playing around” with genealogy for a few years before this but with this book the Genealogy bug bit me, and soon became an obsession as I have found this hobby usually does for many people.
I knew some of the facts in the book relating just to my direct family were wrong so I had a feeling there were other things that were too and I had the urge to fix them but I had no clue where to begin.
In 1991 I had already been using a computer for 6 years.. I was addicted to the vast number of things it could do and since the “web” was just getting going I was also really excited about the amount of information that was becoming available. I had a gut feeling that THIS was going to be the tool to help me in my research.
Over the last 20 years or so, first using “snail mail”, stake centers, interviews and good ole fashioned library research and then “graduating” to the internet I have expanded my family tree from a couple of hundred people, with no real sources or citations to over 18,000 people with some serious proof and only doing my research in “fits & spurts”.
It has only been in the last few months that I have been fortunate enough to work from home full time and because of this I have one dream to fulfill.. to create the biggest, baddest, most organized site for others to be able to come to in order to find GOOD resources that REALLY help them, and if I am being really honest, I am doing it for me, so as I get older and the brain works just a tad slower, that I have a place to come to as well to pick up and continue on in my own research.
So with that I hope you enjoy the site, find something useful, and have a WONDERFUL fun time searching out family.
